so here's the thing

Bad feminist

Sometimes I feel like a bad feminist just because I like Nolan's films. Or at least that's how people make me feel because of how they talk about his films and fans. I never speak or join a conversation whenever his name comes into it, I never give my opinion on him. It feels like people are going to EAT me for saying what i think. But, do I actually deserve it? Do I actually deserve a telling off for liking what he does? Because they're right on what they say.

First and main problem they always have with him is that he never passes the bechdel test. And that's true. Now, the thing is, I never really focus on those things. I mean, I do focus, but I don't really...care? If, when I watch a film I was just focusing on whether it passes the test, I think there'd come a point where I wouldn't watch any more films. Because, let's be honest, very few of them pass it. At the same time, I think that sometimes I don't analyse films enough, and I wish I did. Even so, I'd still watch the films in the same way as I do now. I believe I should stop feeling stupid everytime someone points at me something that I like that is "morally" wrong for me to like.

Also, if I wanted to watch a film with well-written female characters why the hell would I purposely watch a Nolan movie. I'll go and watch another film, not a Nolan one. I'm not stupid, I know what I'm watching. This is not that big of a deal.

I'm pretty much tired of the Nolan conversation because it's the same thing over and over again. Same conversation every time. Of course I don't want to engage with it. I'm tired. You don't like his film? Okay, just don't go into the internet and talk about how much you hate him with those same arguments non stop. I'm sorry but I won't read all of that (I have already read it the first 2000 times). Why would I go into the internet and write 85758 posts about someone I don't like, I don't have enough energy to do that. I would love for people to discover directors and writers who actually write well-written female characters to actually support their projects instead.

Am I too pretencious for liking his films? Am I not feminist enough? Actually who cares, I know myself better than anyone else. I'm already fed up enough with people trying to make me believe things about myself that I'm not. Let me enjoy things while being absolutely aware of what I'm watching. Again, I'm not stupid.

P.S.: Another day I'll get into the boy films and girl films type of discourse, which also fits perfectly into Nolan films and turns out to be an absolutely dumb and misogynist discourse which I'm also very much tired of.
